Senior (education)

Senior is a term used in the United States to describe a student in the 4th year of study (generally referring to high school or college/university study).

High school

In the United States, the 12th grade is usually the fourth and final year of a student's high school period and is referred to as senior year. In England and Wales, students in their tenth year and above in Secondary School are seniors; in Scotland, students in their fifth year and above are seniors. In the Canadian province of Ontario, high school students in their third year and above are considered to be seniors.

Higher education

In the United States, the final year of a student's education towards a bachelor's degree, typically the fourth year, is known as the senior year.

Intercollegiate athletics

In college athletics, a student in their final year of eligibility is known as a senior.

Super Senior

The term super senior is used in the United States to refer to a fifth-year student who has not completed the graduation requirements by the end of the fourth year, and thus is required to stay an additional year to complete said requirements.

Senior (album)

Senior is the fourth studio album by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp, released on 8 September 2010 by Wall of Sound. Consisting of instrumental tracks only, the album is described as more introspective and withdrawn than its predecessor, Junior (2009). The CD's final track "A Long, Long Way" also includes the hidden track "The Final Day", which is available as a separate track on the iTunes Store.

The album debuted at number 33 on the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 3,864 copies.Senior spawned two singles: "The Drug" and "Forsaken Cowboy".

Background

Senior is intended to be an introspective, withdrawn, atmospheric counterpart to the "bubbly dance grooves" of Junior (2009), with Röyksopp stating it has a more "autumn mood" to it, in contrast to Junior's "spring feel". In an interview with KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, Svein Berge dubbed Senior "the senile sibling of Junior who lives in the attic". Berge cited "The Alcoholic" as a standout track, explaining that they had "this romantic, nostalgic idea based on this hobo who hitchhikes on trains and travels from place to place".

Suffix (name)

A name suffix, in the Western English-language naming tradition, follows a person's full name and provides additional information about the person. Post-nominal letters indicate that the individual holds a position, educational degree, accreditation, office, or honor (e.g. "PhD", "CCNA", "OBE"). Other examples include generational designations like "Jr." (or often "Jnr" in British English) and "III", and legal ones such as "Estate" and (French) Feme Covert.

Academic suffixes indicate the degree earned at a college or university. These include the bachelor's degree (A.B, B.A., B.S., B.E., B.F.A., B.Tech., L.L.B, B.Sc., etc.), the master's degree (M.A., M.S., M.F.A., LL.M, M.L.A., M.B.A., M.Sc., M.Eng etc.), the professional doctorate (J.D., M.D., D.O., Pharm.D., etc.), and the academic doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Phil., LL.D, Eng.D., etc.).

In the case of doctorates, either the prefix (e.g. "Dr." or "Atty.") or the suffix (e.g. "J.D.", "M.D.", "D.O.", "D.C.", or "Ph.D.") is used, not both. In the United States, the suffix is the preferred format (thus allowing differentiation between types of doctorate) in written documentation.

Strategy (card game)

Strategy is a solitaire card game which uses a deck of 52 playing cards. It belongs to the same family as Sir Tommy and Calculation, and this can be regarded as the more difficult cousin of Sir Tommy.

The cards in the deck are dealt one at a time. Aces, whenever they appear, are placed onto the foundations and are built up by suit. Cards that cannot yet be built are placed on any one of eight wastepiles, the top cards of which are available for play. Once a card is placed on a wastepile, the next place it will go is to foundations; it cannot be moved to another wastepile.

The game finishes after all cards are dealt to the wastepiles and all appropriate cards are built. The game is won when all cards end up in the foundations.

The Early Tapes

The Early Tapes (July/Aug 1980), also known as Strategy, is the second album released, but first to be recorded, by the British group Level 42. The band subsequently signed to Polydor, who bought the masters from Elite and issued it in March 1982. It features Level 42's first two singles - "Love Meeting Love" (UK #61) and "(Flying On The) Wings Of Love" (UK #76). Most of the tracks are instrumental.
